    SoundGene:
One of the most common birth defects is hearing loss or deafness, which affects three out of every 1,000 babies born. Some babies are born with hearing loss, while others may develop it later in life. Regardless of when hearing loss develops, determining what causes it may help a doctor better treat the child.
Research is now being done to identify the most common causes of hearing loss. This research could change the way we look at this birth defect.
What if a blood test could shed light on the cause and effect of hearing loss? We are closer than you think at finding an answer. This is just one of the ways the NQIN is reaching out to find new advancements in technology.
